Day 01: Arrival at Paro Airport – Transfer to Thimphu

Welcome to the Land of the Thunder Dragon! Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly received by a representative of Oma Tour & Travel. After completing the visa and permit formalities, you will embark on a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital.

En Route Highlights:

  • Pass through the serene Chhukha District, offering picturesque landscapes.
  • Drive alongside the beautiful Isuna River, an ideal introduction to Bhutan’s natural splendor.

Upon Arrival in Thimphu:

  • Check-in at your hotel, followed by some leisure time.
  • Visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the Third Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. This Tibetan-style stupa is dedicated to world peace and is a popular site for local worship.
  • Simply Bhutan Museum: A living museum that offers immersive insights into Bhutanese culture, architecture, and traditions.
  • Authentic Bhutanese Crafts Market: A perfect place to explore local arts and crafts, with an opportunity to shop for traditional souvenirs.

Day 02: Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, begin your full-day tour of Thimphu’s cultural landmarks.

Sightseeing Highlights:

  • Buddha Dordenma: One of the world’s largest Buddha statues, perched atop the hills of Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. The 169-foot statue houses 125,000 smaller Buddhas inside and offers panoramic views of Thimphu Valley.
  • Devi Panchayan Mandir: A unique Hindu temple that blends Bhutanese and Hindu architectural elements. Offer prayers to Goddess Durga, Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesh, and Surya.
  • Takin Preserve: Visit Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin, along with other rare species such as the Muntjac deer and Sambar.
  • Folk Heritage Museum: Get a fascinating glimpse into traditional Bhutanese life, culture, and daily practices.

Enjoy some leisure time exploring Thimphu’s markets in the evening.

Day 03: Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass

After a relaxing breakfast, depart for the scenic valley of Punakha. En Route:

  • Dochula Pass (3,100 meters): A spectacular mountain pass offering a 360-degree view of the Himalayan range on clear days. Admire the 108 memorial chortens and enjoy a warm beverage at the mountain-top café.

In Punakha:

  • Punakha Dzong: Known as the “Palace of Great Happiness,” it is the second oldest and second largest fortress in Bhutan, situated at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Chu rivers.
  • Punakha Suspension Bridge: One of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, adorned with colorful prayer flags and offering stunning river and valley views.
  • Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple): A short scenic hike through the village of Mesina leads to this famous temple, believed to bless childless couples.

Day 04: Punakha to Paro – Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, begin your journey to Paro, a town rich in history and cultural heritage.

En Route:

  • Paro Airport Viewpoint: Capture breathtaking views of the valley and, if timed right, witness a plane landing at one of the world’s most dramatic airports.

In Paro:

  • National Museum (Ta Dzong): Housed in a historic watchtower, the museum showcases Bhutanese history, traditional clothing, artifacts, weaponry, and religious relics.
  • Kichu Lhakhang: Built in the 7th century, this is one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples.
  • Rinpung Dzong: Meaning “Fortress on a Heap of Jewels,” this stunning dzong is a masterpiece of traditional Bhutanese architecture.

Day 05: Paro – Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

Today is the highlight of your Bhutan journey!

  • Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest): A 2-3 hour moderate hike leads you to this iconic site perched 900 meters above the Paro Valley. Believed to be the meditation site of Guru Padmasambhava, the monastery is one of Bhutan’s most sacred pilgrimage spots and offers incredible views.
  • Evening: Free time for a stroll through Paro town and optional shopping.

Day 06: Departure – Transfer to Paro International Airport

After breakfast, our representative will assist you with airport formalities. Depart with beautiful memories of Bhutan’s landscapes, traditions, and warm hospitality.
